Sam Gray’s work explores mystical connections between people and the natural world by merging and juxtaposing their forms. The cover piece is part of her upcoming exhibit at the McGuffey Art Center entitled Gaean Reveries. The collection includes a variety of painting and drawing media connected by their spirit of anthro-botanical surrealism, divine femininity, and inner reflection. Since moving to Charlottesville two years ago, Gray has become an active organizer of the local arts community. She and sculptor Lily Erb are co-founders of the Feminist Union of C’ville Creatives (FUCC), a group for female-identifying and gender-nonconforming creatives. An opening reception for Gaean Reveries will be held Friday, July 6 from 5:30–7:30 PM. See more of Gray’s work at
