John M. Adams is a visual artist and arts educator based in Bon Air. With a BFA from VCU and an MFA from JMU, he has brought his expertise to numerous arts institutions throughout Virginia. He, along with fellow artist Matthew Grimes, will be featured in a new juried show at Commune in the NEON District of Norfolk entitled immersion:emersion. The exhibition features deconstructed paintings and mixed media works. The cover piece, “Of Splinters And Feathers,” is representative of Adams’s portion of the show, an abstract field of taped-off regions where acrylics, latex, and cold wax varnish all combine to activate the perceptual connection between artist, object, and viewer. An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 1 beginning at 6:00 PM; show will remain on view through July 14. Immersion:emersion is generously sponsored by the Rutter Family Art Foundation.
