Meghan Baker is a senior high school student at Fredericksburg Academy. Her piece “Untitled” won Best In Show last month at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library 23rd Annual Teen Art Show. Drawing on her Japanese ancestry for inspiration, she frequently incorporates symbols important in her culture such as koi fish and lotus flowers. “I wanted to create a portrait with a character who doesn’t just look average,” she said of the piece. “I wanted her to catch the viewer and make them stand and wonder what it is that captured their attention in the first place.” Baker has participated in two local murals with art instructor Mirinda Reynolds and hopes to continue her art studies in college.
