Originally from California, David Wold has made Virginia his home. He currently lives in Fredericksburg where he finds ample inspiration for his paintings. His work features bright, seemingly optimistic cityscapes, chaotic abstracts, and hollow-eyed portraits of nobody in particular. That latter motif has been something of a cathartic ritual for Wold. The dozens of blank-faced canvases occupying his studio, each with its own thousand-yard stare, provide an outlet for his own negative emotional energy. The culmination of the series is humansphere, a larger-than-life painting that evokes both the overwhelming presence of humankind and the pervasive neuroses contained within.
